This is Rachel, a royal GYPSY princess Trollfling. I love her purple eyes especially. She is a bit of a free spirit, and just adores the teal accents in her hair. The Royal trollflings have always brought me a bit of luck when they are around, maybe they will for you as well!

She is very tiny, here she is pictured next to my Amber ring. Her beautiful wings were created by my special friend Patricia Carlson who is a CDHM artisan! Her wings are just to die for and they are so well made.

Snowman Gnome Trollfling Troll doll Mikey

Here comes the snowmen! Well maybe it is a little early this year, but I just couldn't wait to start making my Snowgirl and Snowboy Trollflings. A flying Trollfling Troll!

This is a funny doll for me to create this week seeing as I was on an airplane just a couple of days ago. Those of you closest to me know that I HATE (with a capital H) to fly. It is super scary and I can't stand it. I have had way too many run-ins with storms and turbulence, I think I am an airplane jinx!

I imagined that if we all had wings the airline industry would suffer greatly. If I had real wings they would most likely be a shiny pink, green or teal....or maybe wings like Zora's!

Zora is a Flying Trollfling and she is available in my Artfire shop. I hope you like her! If you would like your own Flying Trollfling in your own style and colors please contact me, I do enjoy making them and they are my own original design. The very first Flying Trollfling faerie was created in 2005 and Zora is only the third ever, the second flying Trollfling belongs to my daughter Roz and it flies over her bed!

A Dragon Fairy Trollfling Troll doll...Cloud Dragon Kaya

A beautiful Cloud Dragon trollfling, Kaya! Now I have created A LOT of dragons in my time but Kaya is really exceptional. She is near four inches wide, one of my bigger dragon Trolls!

I could create dragons all day everyday, they are so fun to use so many different colors of clay and glitter and have such sweet faces.

I am super proud and happy to announce that the Trollie Trolls now have their own gallery at CDHM. Custom Dolls, Houses and Miniatures is a wonderful miniature organization we are have been involved with for seven years, the best place for miniature artists and collectors.

My husband Aaron is the creator of the Trollie trolls...animal cousins to the Trollflings! Aaron creates all kinds of rare and sweet little animals but (in my own personal opinion) the cutest being little guinea pigs in funny silly costumes! Guinea pig pirates, faeries and gnomes.

A great big Trollfling HELLO!

Hello everyone.

Wow I haven't blogged in what seems like forever! Just get busy...real busy. Sometimes I forget this is even here! BUT checking my stats it does seem that I get visitors and wow I am really happy about that. Thanks!

I sit and I try to think of clever and witty things to say but nothing comes to me. Life is still the same for me here....I still make trolls week in and week out. I still love my job so much and I get to meet the neatest people. I've been trying new things...and of course getting new awesome supplies all the time...the trolls have been very happy with me!

We have a new type of troll here from Edgehill...the Trollie Troll animals which my talented husband has been making. Have you seen them yet? They are totally adorable (find them on my website!) I also have a few still available in my artfire store but they won't last long.

I've been organizing and cleaning and getting things ready for crazy Christmas. We love Christmas, but seeing as we have six little elves here in the cottage it just makes things that much more hectic. I don't get out a lot so most of my shopping is done online, which is always neat. I practically live in my pajamas and I will be the first to admit it.

Found out I am going to be an AUNT this spring which I am super happy about. Love ya Zach and Kylie!

I will be updating again soon with a goblin gnome, perhaps tomorrow. For now I will say goodbye, but it is never really a goodbye...more like see you later!

Woodland Trollfling Goblin Lukas

My newest stone goblin, meet Lukas! He is a newer type of doll that I have been having so much fun creating. Standing three inches high from his foot to his ear with the biggest brown eyes. Wearing some leathery type brown tights and a little shiny here and there on his belt and in his hair! Here are some preview photos of our Lukas who will be available in my CDHM gallery AUGUST 7th for purchase/adoption.

The real story behind the Baby Ghost Trollflings

I get a lot of requests for different Halloween trolls that I create every year around Autumn. Bats, little monsters....pumpkins etc...but the little baby ghosts have a story all their own.

It goes back to when I was a child. Oh around 1983 or so. My mother was enrolled in a local Ceramics class in Virginia Beach Virginia. She would get together with other Navy wives and have a sort of craft night together. My mom loved to paint and besides she brought home the cutest little creations from her classes. We had easter bunnies, little horses....a beautiful indian maiden that she painted all herself. Every season when the holidays would change she would proudly display the little collectibles she created.

One of my all-time favorites that she made was a Mommy ghost pushing a baby ghost in a carriage. It was such a pretty mom ghost with a pearl finishing and the baby had big blue eyes. I actually looked forward to seeing that cute mommy ghost and her baby every Halloween when my mom would bring out the decorating box. The mom ghost looked so happy and the baby was just so adorable. I remember admiring them and arranging them. To me they were real and I truly loved them.

Now that I am an artist, I think back to so long ago....almost 25 years ago and how that Mom and baby ghost that made me happy. I want to evoke those same feelings with my own art. A little baby that is so darling it just makes you want to smile.

So there you have it. The baby ghost story! I have been asked SO many times where my inspiration comes from, and it comes from everywhere. My happy childhood, my own beautiful children and of course my IMAGINATION!

My very latest dragon, a commission doll

I am not available for commissions on a regular basis but I do accept a few now and then depending on my schedule! I do have six little kids here at home and my time is so limited between being a mommy and an artist ...but I do enjoy working with my lovely collectors to create a troll just for them. I hope to be able to accept them on a full time basis...maybe someday! I just simply don't have the time to accept more than one or two a month at the moment. I do thank everyone that has inquired about their own troll! Of course there are always trolls to adopt NOW in my shops! (links to the right over there)

My last commission I have completed is a purple dragon FULL of sparkles named Ayla for our pal Iza!

Give me a few ideas, eye color, boy or girl and expression and I do my very best to get you the Trollfling that you would love! It's that simple and lots of fun. I have the honor of creating a special tiny Royal princess this week.

Trollfling Fairy Frogs-our newest Eliana

Ever since I was a tiny tiny child I have loved frogs and toads. Finding a little toad in the yard was like christmas day for me. So sweet with their little wide mouths and shining gold eyes. Here I am some 30 years later and I still love them! We have a fish pond here in our yard and every so often we will catch a frog just hanging around.

So maybe that is why you might wonder why I make so many frogs. Now you know :)

That being said, I have another frog for you today, meet Eliana!

Eliana is a princess fairy frog, imagine finding her in your yard! So beautiful with the prettiest wings. A little more than a handful a smallish frog and so brightly colored.

The Trollfling's SIXTH Anniversary!!!

Yep you read that right! It is our SIXTH year of creating Trollflings and I must say it has been So much fun. I never thought it possible in a gazillion years that I would ever be a full time artist, even though it was my dream. Dreams do come true ladies and gentlemen....

I have met the most wonderful people...fellow artists and collectors. I will say this I have the best collectors in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD and each one of you is just as sweet as the one before. I still can't believe sometimes how lucky the Trollflings and myself are to have such awesome people like you on our side!

In July of 2004 I created my very first Trollfling troll and I have been making them ever since. I have six children here at home so being a stay at home mom and artist is just ideal. I plan on doing this for my entire life...I'm pretty sure this is my destiny. *smile* In that time I have been honored and BLESSED to have been in three wonderful magazines and have been named CDHM (cdhm.org) Artist of the Month. I have also been given the Froudian Artist of the Month award way back in August of 2006. I hate to float my own boat but really the honors all belong to the Trollflings :)

Seeing as the children are out of school for the summer I can't create as many Trollflings as I would like to. I appreciate everyone being patient with my schedule! I have also been getting many inquiries about special orders and I just can't take any at this time, perhaps early August we will see. Not to fret there will be little ones appearing here and there so just keep an eye on my shops.

Also join my Friends of the Trollflings FACEBOOK page (link to the right there) and I update that almost daily. I love to keep in touch with all my trollfling pals, it makes my day!

Long I had imagined what one might look like, but never saw it come to life. I had the vision in my head...I see them in my dreams playing about.

My husband Aaron is an illustrator...so we got to work. Days and days of collaborations..getting the eyes just right...the hair and expressions and he came up with the loveliest little girl I had seen! It was indeed a Trollfling, by george he had done it! He said that he could do it and indeed HE DID. I am so goshlucky proud of my husband and his art...

How could we not share this with everyone??

New Dragon Trollfling babies

I am extremely proud of our newest little dragon babies. They are not too much different than my cloud dragon babies of the years past, but they are more baby and troll like...big eyes really tug at your heart!

I hope to have them around for quite some time, and Happy to introduce my newest little dragon baby, Xin! A little firedragon troll baby, who is ready to celebrate the Chinese new year. He has cherry red hair and shining eyes...such a dream!

Greetings to all-Snow and other stuff

Hi everyone, it's the world's worst blogger here. Just thought I would drop a line to say hi to all our new follower friends.

Well looks like we are looking at yet ANOTHER winter storm here in cold Ohio. I feel for my brother who is about to get another 20 inches of snow on top of the 20 inches they had just two days ago. The mind just boggles to think of it, almost four feet of snow, in Virginia??

Just goes to show you, things could always be WORSE! Much worse :) Now most people might think snow is lovely but not me. I grew up in the South, and I think it is horrid stuff. Dangerous to drive in, a pain to shovel and pretty much puts my active self on pause. I like to be out and about here and there, and snow just gets in my way!

Rolling along with the little trolls, have another mermaid in the studio joining me this week, she should be available for adoption by Friday. Took a good long look at my supplies and they need organizing too. Seeing as I will probably be snowed in again by morning....no time like the present eh? :)

So everyone in the Eastern US and elsewhere getting snowed in, we are with ya. We don't care for it either.

Goblin Monster Trollfling Scotty and his bear !

One thing you might not know about me is...I love bears. When I was a child I used to dream about having a grizzly bear as a pet...and had a stuffed Grizzly bear named Grumble. I still collect little bears to this day. While having a grizzly bear as a pet isn't practical (obviously) I still love them. I see a grizzly bear on the nature channel and I have an overwhelming urge to hug it!

Scotty loves his bear and won't let it go for anything. Now my little Goblins and trolls that hold bears or other little stuffed animals is inspired by my son who treats his stuffed animals like gold. Avery has such a caring heart and it shows in every single little thing that he does.

As we here in Edgehill are celebrating the holidays and the coming of the New Year, we wish you all peace and happiness!

Sam the Snowman is our newest tree mascot this year and his happy face ushers in the holiday season. Every year I add a new troll ornament friend to our tree...our tradition.

Another wonderful year here for us, many new trolls happy and cozy in their loving homes. We are so blessed with wonderful collectors who we also call our friends. Words cannot truly express the gratitude and happiness that we feel. We try our best, but it never seems to even approach our true feelings.

Snow Faerie Trollfling Trolls

Why hello there!
I am happy to introduce the Snowman Faerie Trolls again this year...going to be introducing my very first this week..but for those of you who missed them last year please stop into my ARTFIRE store this week to see my very first one for this year! My artfire shop link is right there to the right.

Shopping for Christmas is not a chore for me, I really enjoy it. I have five little girls and I could spend hours and hours just looking at all the adorable things to get them as gifts. This year I am noticing the most wonderful little things for girls. Bright colors, purples/pinks, spots and stripes...I will be trying to incorporate these FUN girly things for my snowgirls and snowboys this year. Something that might remind you of candy, lollipops...fun little mittens. A Christmas carnival!

The little troll snowgirl in this photo is from last year and she has already been adopted, but shown as an example. Tiny carrot noses...chubby troll cheeks and feet. ..I have been making my snowtrolls for about 3 years now and I just adore them. I hope you do too.

It's my brother's 28th birthday on Oct 22nd. My baby brother!

My little brother is one of my favorite people in the entire world. He served in the US Navy and has done two tours in Iraq aboard the USS Ashland. We both love scary movies and Halloween. He can make me laugh until I feel sick, he is so funny! Even though we are states apart from each other he always remembers his big sister and calls me just to talk. I always feel better when he is around.

Zach became engaged a couple of weeks ago , and I started to cry a bit. My little brother is not so little anymore, but I see it more as...I am not losing a brother, but I am gaining a sister! (Love you Kylie!)

Jenilynne reminds me of a very famous faerie! Can you tell??

No I am not but thanks yoo so much for askin! Perhaps she is her long lost cousin, who knows? ;)

Jenilynne is a sweet soul, with a fun yellow hairdo and the prettiest little wings. Green tights...in a flirty fun pose. Such a dollbaby! She is 2.5 inches high from the stone to her ears, and she is not removeable from her base.

Her base was handsculpted in a stone clay mix, and I really love creating stone bases for some of my faeries.

I have been working SO very hard on making the trollfling's faerie wings just as special as they are. Jenilynn has crystals on her wings and the nicest microsparkles. Just adds a bit of magic to the faerie kids!

Bradley the Busybody Trollfling

Sometimes I like to have fun with the Trollfling's photos...and our Bradley here was all too happy to help. I own several halloween and art/jewelry magazines and he had been thumbing through them looking for party ideas.

Little Bradley is a Busybody....he likes to get into stuff. I am a mommy of six and boy don't I know what this is all about. With Bradley,sometimes it is perfectly harmless things...then other times I will find him rifling through my ribbon drawer or dumping out glitter.

Halloween doings

Hallo there, just a little update for anyone who was interested what my family and I have been up to this week. It is after all our favorite time of year and we are happy little trolls.

Been putting out my halloween decorations this week and wanted to share something that I made with everyone. This is something that I do for fun.....floral work!

A long long time ago I used to help my mother out in a floral shop when I was a young teen. She taught me everything that I know about floral design and was lucky to have such a creative mom and boy did my mom show me some things about having "an eye for color". Little did I know then I would use that same knowledge when I was older and became an artist.

I teach my own children everything that I can about creativity, and using their imagination to make their surroundings beautiful. I created this wreath with the help of my 6 year old Sophie and my five year old Sam. We proudly hung it on our front door for all the little goblins and ghosties to enjoy.

What about a dragon?

I asked my husband one day while sitting in the studio "Well sweetheart what should I make next?"(takes a look around) and he thought for a moment.
"What about a dragon, you haven't made one of those in a while."

Yes. Well what about a dragon then? How would he know you ask? He is my book-keeper. Every single troll that goes out our door, he records it in our books. Not only is he incredibly tall, smart and handsome, he is also our accountant. He was right. There hadn't been one of my dragons for quite some time.

That has changed. I sculpted our Miss Adelea just yesterday and she is lying on a pumpkin. A dragon of the fall....a very sweet dark pink girl with a fall like headpiece and swell matching hair. She is in a photo with Sissy the Ghost Trick or Treater girl. Sissy is available in my CDHM shop now.

Trick or Treat Trollflings

Daniel is going out for Trick and Treat in HalloweenTown! BOO!!!

Been busy here in Edgehill...so many halloween ideas!
I had been out "crafting" as I call it, and found the neatest little things. I always try to draw inspiration from things I see out and about...colors...even little trick or treat costumes.

I created a costumed Troll named Daniel! Daniel is a BAT and is ready to go out looking for treats. Normally a pumpkin bucket would be orange...but I decided to make his a neat green.
Daniel has the best costume on the block and is READY for some fun!

Daniel will be available for adoption in Ebay on the afternoon of September 17th but will share his photo with you now. Daniel is a really big guy (in trollfling standard) almost three inches high to his pointy bat ears! He loves his friends and loves Halloween most of all!

Amber and the Goblins

Be still my heart...A bat!

I created a bat that will literally make your heart go pitter pat!
A handsome boy named Ferguson. A green sparkled sweetheart with mouselike feet and tiny little teeth. He has a sparkly long tail and big brown eyes! His wings were created especially by myself with super secret method and are gently poseable.

I create my tiny bats on occasion but they are indeed rare. Ferguson here is so very photogenic, he is happy happy! The biggest grin you have ever seen!

Ferguson is kindhearted and loves every single living creature. He is nocturnal however...so put the cookies away or you will wake in the morning to find them gone!

Ferguson is under one inch high to his ear but so very big in spirit! He has truly captured my heart, I hope you love him also!

Fall Faerie Trollfling Girl "Autumn"

My bigfootie faeries, I get a lot of mail about them. Asking about them,..and when new ones will be available. Real happy about that! You see they are the largest troll that I create, but I don't create them very often. I will tell you I put hours and hours into every single one. They are extremely special, and each and every one has a different theme it seems.

Over the years I have probably created 2-300 hundred of them. Some of them are still so fresh in my mind as if they were still here and I will admit that I miss them sometimes!

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Fall. The colder evenings, visiting my mom's farm and picking pumpkins. I also have six little ones so trick or treat is always the highlight of the season too. Boy there is not enough blog for me to explain how much I love it. I created a new Fall Faerie Bigfootie Troll this week inspired by my favorite season.

Trollfling Troll Frog Witches

I love witches. I really really truly do. I cannot (or maybe won't?) sculpt a conventional witch doll. What about a frog??

I have three of my own pet frogs in our koi pond. Well no really they aren't mine they are free to come and go as they please...they more like invited themselves. They give me the shifty eye most days then hop into the water, but they are mine and they have names. Chickie, Javi and Pickles! Chickie is a chicken he runs whenever he sees us, Pickles looks like...well a pickle and Javi is a big green brave fellow who deserved a more warrior like name. Sometimes I see animals in the wild and imagine them in costumes. Mostly because I am weird like that. Javi would have a spear and shield if he could, I just know he would.

I thought to myself, a frog in a witch's hat. Maybe with colorful hair and a fancy type hat. My frogs also have SHIFTY magical eyes as frogs like to keep their eyes on things at all times. Due to their cautious nature I imagine! Can't say that I blame them. There are a lot of snakes out there.

Something new for me, a Trollfling ATC ACEO "Lovely to fly"

I had a dream of a little brown bat, flying through the sky. He had a huge smile on his face as he looked down at the pretty town below. But how on earth could I sculpt THAT??

When I was younger, I wanted to be an illustrator. I hadn't sketched in so long I was afraid I would forget how! Aaron had found my pencil set in our old supply cabinet downstairs and I remembered some ATC blanks I ordered about a year ago.

My little brown bat dream came to life!

My second ATC ever , the first belonging to my trollfling friend Carolyn.
You see I am never satisfied with just making one plain thing then leaving it be. Had to have sparkle. It had to have a fancy stand.

This whole thing is my dream. The dolls, the art, the whole thing...and it feels lovely to fly.

Not really sure I will be selling these in the future but really, who knows what the future might bring! I have been working with my husband on some illustration designs, still working out some bugs!

Gothic Goblin Boy "Yurloc"

I struggled for a good long while to what Yurloc actually was. I wasn't sure myself! When I list my little guys in my shops for adoption, they always ask for titles.

Yurloc was a difficult one for me. He is one of those super rare little troll kids that is beyond, definition. I really let my imagination take over with tiny Yurloc. Every troll I make has my heart, 800 percent.

You see this little cutie had so many characteristics of the trolls that I love. The little goblins, the monkeys, the bats...and of course the beautiful glittery wings! HIs sad little face, most definitely a goblin, but please look at the ears! ALso a bat ! He has to be. If anything is the epitome of what I love about my little ones, Yurloc is it.

I am very happy and proud to present little Yurloc to you. Whatever he is, he is loveable, and sweet....and now looking for a home!

This is my very first featured artist on my blog, my husband Aaron Matthies.

Aaron has been creating his haunted trees for many years but has recently begun to sculpt them again! My husband has been creating with me for many years....haunted dollhouses, dollhouse spooky miniature plants and his larger than life miniature trees. Most average around 3-4 inches high.

New to Edgehill...The Treebies!

Treebies live at the base of trees and find their way around their world with the use of their six legs and arms. I have spent a lot of time at the base of the pine tree next to our house trying to situate our garden...and imagine my surprise to see the Treebies about, busily preparing their own gardens! They run very fast and have no natural enemies because they can charm most anything, even spiders!

Well after a long loooong winter, spring has finally arrived! This sweet little sleepy head will hopefully wake up soon to see everything bloom.

The spring Show at Dottie's was really great! I met a lot of fantastic people, and everyone got to meet the trollkids with an "AWW HOW SWEET!"
We did our job! Made a lot of people smile!

The Trollstones are BACK in my etsy shop. I sell out of them each year, and at every single show. They come in families, in pairs...babies and moms and dads...I think that people can really relate to them and their different expressions!! I know they are surely sweet. I am happy to create them. They are created simply for the joy of creating tiny families and having fun.

I will try to be better about blogging! Have been working so hard to prepare for this show, and there will be another show in the Fall (again thanks to my pal Dottie of Patty Cake and Morning Glory) and also A TON of exciting developments for Edgehill....so please stay tuned to see all that is going on!

Spring is also a time for reflection! I have also been busying myself with new inspirations...caring for my plants and tending the garden. My sister will be married in October so this year our pumpkin patch will be switched up a bit with GREEN pumpkins in lieu of the orange for her harvest themed wedding. They are already sprouting. We shall see how they do.

Young at heart always

I will explain a bit about the song I chose for the Trollfling mini film.
Young at Heart is a beautiful song and has always been one of my favorites. It is from the film starring Frank Sinatra and Doris Day titled "Young at Heart".

I highly believe that if you stay young at heart you will never grow old, that you stay young in spirit. I am happy and proud that my trollflings will be forever young, and always loved by those who adopt them. They have a special way of making you feel happy inside.

Life does get more exciting every single day for myself, because every day is a new opportunity to love and be loved, and of course to create the sweethearts you see here. When I look back on the dolls I have sculpted so far, it is so wonderful to see their photos and think about how much they almost seem to come alive in their smiles. They have such heart.

So, with that being said...I hope you enjoy! :)

The Trollflings-"Young at Heart"

Book Fairy Trollfling "Julia"-Troy Art Auction and Benefit

There is a very special Trollfling girl who has a very special date this Saturday. Julia will be taking part in a Silent Art Auction to benefit Sue Cantrell of Around About Books in Troy,Ohio. I was there myself earlier today to see the other artist's contributions, and wow there are so many wonderful TALENTED artists here in Troy,Ohio. The Troy Arts Council is a wonderful organization I am proud to be a part of.
Julia is now on display at Around About Books in Troy Ohio on Main Street, and hopefully she will be able to help out as much as she possibly can. She has a bright smile of caring on her face....I created her with a book theme in mind, almost as if she is dreaming of which tale to read next. Her wings are also made of recycled paper with bits of vintage newspaper and books.

It’s Time to Give Back! A Fundraising Benefit for Downtown Troy Business Owner Sue Cantrell

Troy, Ohio – February 27, 2008 - In December of 2007, Sue Cantrell, co-owner of Around About Books located in Downtown Troy, had a portion of her leg amputated due to numerous blood clots. Friends within the community and the members of Espresso Book Club have organized a fundraiser to help offset her various medical costs.

The community is invited to come and listen to a variety of local writers as they take the stage to share their shorts stories, memoirs, and poetry. Place a bid in the silent art auction featuring items created from local artists; or purchase a raffle ticket for the chance to win one of several gift baskets filled with books signed and donated by published authors, and items donated by Downtown Troy businesses. Refreshments and desserts will be available for purchase during the event. Admission is $10.

Please join us on March 15th from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the Market Square Community Room located at 405 SW Public Square, 3rd Floor in Downtown Troy. It is a pleasure for the Espresso Book Club to organize this fundraising benefit in an effort to give back to our friend Sue Cantrell, as she has given so much to each of us and to the community.

True love is blind-Strong Kongo and KitKat Kitten

I wanted to write a bit about my newest doll. You see sometimes when I create something, it is truly from my heart, and is inspired by my everyday life.

My husband is my light, the love of my life

and recently, he has found a new friend. A homeless cat named Tom. Tom has seen some pretty bad days, but found a wonderful friend in my husband. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about it.

It is so endearing to see my big strong husband with such a soft spot for homeless cats...I created Kongo and KitKat. Kongo found KitKat out in the rain and held her tight. KitKat felt safe for the first time in her young life and has a love for Kongo that knows no end.

Fantasy Faery Rose Blooms~Ah Romance~!

Wow. After working for YEARS on trying to make my own flowers...I am so happy with the new roses I have come up with for my trolls and fantasy art.

Miniature long stemmed roses! Aren't they swell? I am so happy with them. I am normally not the type to puff myself up, but I am so excited to have created something every faery or fantasy artist can use.

They are made one at a time by me..and boy are they tiny! The stems are two inches long and the largest roses are a third of an inch wide. They are perfect to tuck into a faery's hand or hair...just wonderfully sweet and romantic looking.

I hope to have some for sale in my etsy shop eventually. I will also be teaching a tutorial at CDHM this April for a much spookier version of my rose blooms. You will have to tune in, to see what we mean! ;)

Frog Prince Trolls-True love!!

One type of trollfling that is close to my heart is the Frog Prince trolls. I made my very first Frog Prince almost 3 years ago and every year around Valentine's day a frog prince or two will appear!

UPDATE!: Well my Secret Valentine contest was so fun! It is nice to surprise people. That dapper prince up above was adopted by Matt who is a dear collector friend who spotted Prince Jameson first on Etsy during my Secret Valentine contest! Congrats Matt! I am sure he will be well loved among your collection!

Cupcake night

Normally I write about my trolls and my art but I thought I would share something fun about me and my family.

Being a mom of five, I set aside special time for each of my children to spend with just me. Each of my kids has a different interest and I try to encourage them. My son likes to mix batter and things because he hopes to be a chemist/scientist someday.

Avery and I made cupcakes for Big Daddy and the sisters. We also made an icebox cake for Big Daddy with M+Ms.

Make it a point to take time out for yourself and your kids because life is sometimes crazy. My children are my life so it is a pleasure for me. My son is my best pal because even in the loneliest/saddest of my times in my long distant past, he would walk into the room and remind me of what is really important. He will always be there for me.

Making cupcakes also means something else....you as the baker, gets to eat the very first one. (it's only right!) My husband often tells me my cupcakes look "professional" but seems as if Avery has the cupcake gift too. (see above photo)

Whoa Nelly!

Bucky was a dragonfly trainer, and he and his dragonfly girl Nelly were to be in a really big All- dragonfly show! Stunts and aerials, and the trollfling with the best dragonfly trick would win a gold trophy. A GOLD TROPHY! (Trollflings take shiny things VERY seriously)

Nelly however, was not yet too stable to fly being she was still a youngling! She was a golden Dragonfly therefore could turn the best tricks (or so the pet book said) but when Bucky adopted Nelly he had no idea just how goofy she was. All she wanted to do was laugh, giggle and have fun.

Bucky tried his hardest to get her to stay adrift she just kept trying to hug him the entire time.

"Nelly's you gots to try" Bucky told Nelly but she kept smiling at him and making a "meep eep" sound. (wings fluttering)

You see Nelly just wanted to make her Bucky smile. Sure she wanted to win the All Dragonfly award but being with Bucky was much more importants. So the moral of this story is, all that glitters...is NOT gold! (or golden dragonflies or trophies) but the love we give and share every single day.

Dedicated to my son Avery who spent the better part of his summer studying dragonflies near our pond and who loves all creatures great and small.

The Christmas Trolls

I took a moment this morning and revisited all the troll Faery girls from Christmases past. Some of my most favorite dolls are my holiday faerys. There is something magical about winter and Christmas and I am so lucky to be able to recreate that magic in their tiny faces.

Even though the girls now have happy homes I still think of them when I visit my troll album. I hope you enjoy their pictures!

Dasher and Chrissi Trollflings and " The Candy Cane"

Dasher Reindeer and Chrissi awoke Christmas morning to find Santa had left them two big candy canes!
Dasher quickly ate his up...but Chrissi the Sweet Potato wanted to take one small bite then finish the rest later. Now in Trollflingland, one knows NOT to let their candies lie around, another troll will take it. Chrissi held onto her Santa gift very tightly...she wouldn't even let go of it to straighten her Christmas hat! Dasher sniffed the air a bit then whispered to himself

"Candy cane...nummy"

"Now Dashers you alreddy ate yors!" Chrissi had said quite matter-of-factly.

Dasher scooted a bit closer...closer still....eyes on the prize...ever still closer...transfixed on the red and white stripes (it is dazzling)

" I am warning yoo buster! Yoo are muh frend but this is my candy canes!" Her grip tightened on her candy cane, so much so she almost snapped it in half.

Dasher scooted just a teeny bit closer(he knew now he might be pushing his luck) and gave Chrissi his best puppydog eyes. Dasher's Scruff bear stepped in a bit closer too. *scoot*

Chrissi at this point began to feel nervous and had thought to herself
"SIGH, I should have eetin this earlier! Ok Dasher and Scruff, you win. "
She also remembered that part of the magic of Christmas is sharing with others and did allow Dasher to have a tiny bit of it before she ate it herself.

Woodland walk fairy basket tutorial

Miniature Floral Fairy Basket/Beds for Polymer Faery faes

Woodland walk
Wow some of the basket selection at your local craft store is NOT FIT for faery babies. That is where you step in! You can alter those high clunky tall and awkward baskets into something resembling a fine bed for a wee faery child. I can show you how.

Hallo everyone it is me Amber Matthies, here again to show you a few things if you want to sit along. I create my tutorials much as if you were sitting here right along with me, chatting and creating. It's fun. It's fun to share. I can dig it ;)

1. Remove the bottom and handle and lay to the side as shown.
2. Using some cloth covered BROWN wire (available in the floral arranging section) add the bottom back to the basket but a bit inside so lays flat. Free stitch tightly back onto the circular basket hoop. All the way around, and using the empty areas between the weaves (like sewing) Stitch , stitch!!

3. Hoorah! Look! Now it lies flat no more bulky bottom! Reglue the handle back into the very bottom securely to shorten it. I use Aleene's tacky glue with my floral and basket work. Strong hold, low toxicity.

Floral Fantasy work TIP A:

My first tip to you about fantasy floral designing. Do not just rip a piece off your moss sheet and plunk it down inside your floral work. You do not want the clunky. Does not look natural! You want it to look gathered as if a faery had harvested it and added it herself for her babe to lay in. Those tiny details is what will make your work stand out as "faery authentic".

Stretch it a bit! Take out those large pieces of mud and trim as much of the brownie stuff off as you can. Throw out the pine needles and sticks (save the sticks for your nests!) Just takes away from the beautiful green of your sheet moss. You pay dearly for that green, use it! (trust me I know!)

I am a professionally trained florist of over 10 yrs experience but I work on the tiniest scale. It is SO fun but a challenge.

4. Now is a fun part you might all know. EMBELLISHING..think again faery authentic for those of you who like the classic look (like myself)

I added one of my yarn swaddled weekins to the basket, and she is comfy as can be! A butterfly came by to take a peek, aww how sweet! Imagine yourself on a woodland walk and found this basket resting on a log! That my friends is the magic of faery! You will find a bit of your own style coming through in your work and that is SO important. YOu want to create with your art something that came from your heart. Fantasy tree, what will you be??

Ah it is to be a Wizards' Tree! The best part about starting to sculpt a tree is, I never know how it will end up! Mean or sad, evil or kind....the tree creates itself (I am just the hands ;))
Here is the nose...yep...moving along nicely...keep smoothing! The opposite end of a paintbrush is good at smoothing larger noses...(keep that in mind)
Upper lip, it's very important! Upper lip creates movement as in a laughing smile or singing, or speaking (think about your own upper lip moving when you smile or speak)
Hey how's it goin? The weather is fine here today. I heard there may be snow moving in """" Now wait. Back to business! You need a face sometime today fine sir!
Eyebrows convey emotions. Think of your own eyebrows when you are upset or happy, or sad...they go up and down and move along with your eyes.

A bit jovial? It works for me! Perhaps questioning? Add a beard and you shall have........................

I laughed a good while at this...Sean Connery! I swear it was not intentional. It just goes to show you, that the clay takes on a life of it's own sometimes. I do on occasion sculpt trees that look like various moviestars completely by accident...in fact... once I had a tree turn out to look like William H. Macy. (one of my favorite actors)

My blog does say "fantasy sculpting" so I will be back here and again with some fun photos and tips for you I can share.

Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey

Not only is "Nestor the Long-Eared Christmas Donkey" my four year old's favorite Christmas tale...I love it too.

I created my newest troll with that wonderful story in mind.

You see Nestor was born different. He had long long ears that he often tripped upon. The other donkeys would "laugh" and call him useless. He would hang his sweet head and seek reassurance from his mother who loved him dearly.

One day, the stable master had rejected Nestor for offending a Roman Guard, who had orders from the Emperor for donkeys from the stable.

Nestor was on his own in the cold when Momma came to comfort him.

A cherub appeared to him and spoke to him! Nestor could hear the angel with the help of his special ears. The cherub (an angel for animals) guided Nestor to Bethlehem where he had a very special mission.

Nestor was claimed by a stable master there, when Joseph and Mary arrived to adopt him. You see Mary was heavy with child and couldn't walk through the cold night. They needed to find a place to stay, for a child was on the way.

The inns were all full because of the Roman census...Joseph and Mary had no where to stay, and time was running out.

Nestor remembered the warm stable where he grew up and how comforting it was. He took Mary who he was carrying to the stable where baby Jesus arrived shortly after.

Nestor returned home to his home and mother, a hero! He had helped our Lord into this world and kept him safe.

My doll is an homage to that sweet story. I also believe that even though you are different, you can still feel love and pride in what you do and find friendship when you least expect it. Angels guide us everyday, and Nestor is proof of that!

Autry the Red Antlered Reindeer

Had a very chilly nose! He found a teddy under the tree this year....and it was JUST what he wanted!

who has donned her red antlers since the auction she ran for a pair of dog antlers to benefit the animals who were lost and injured in Hurricane Katrina so many years ago. Her friend Gus the Brittany was the fashionable model for those antlers, and Judi was able to raise quite a lot for those pets lost in the storm.

The red antlers are a reminder of the love and care Judi shows animals each and every day. I am honored to have been Judi's friend for many years through C.D.H.M.

A dragon for the Holidays

Last week's post was about wonderful Doolittle in his teacup, well I have another special Dragon that truly needs a home for the Christmas time.

Midnight is a special boy, created with the night skies in mind. Wonderful glow in the dark spots....just truly a glittering delight. Many people decorate with blue and silver for the holidays (myself included) and this cutie wants a home !

Tea Time with a Dragon

Often I enjoy my coffee while sculpting (the lot of us might) but this little dragon child really made me laugh! He had climbed into his own teacup and decided to wait until he could catch a bit of it.

I named him Doolittle boy(after Eliza Doolittle of course) and he is the funniest lad! He is available for adoption through Ebay this week.

I am pleased that they turned out so very cute and rest assured there will be more of them in my Mintd, Etsy , and CDHM shop.

Halloween Love!

Normally when I create a couple set of Trollflings, it is usually a trollfling with a pet or toy. Never before has there been a Trollfling couple! Halloween love is the best kind!

Inspired by Mary Shelley's Book about a mad doctor's creation....Frankenstein's Monster and his Bride! A night out at the movies is just the thing to get into the Halloween spirit! A double feature, complete with popcorn!

A unique set of trollflings, my first ever monster couple who is to say it will be the last? :)

I have plans to be Lily Munster this halloween to entertain the neighborhood children, so the hairstyle on Mrs. Frankenstein is extra cute to me! Click their photo to visit the auction and read the story for yourself.

Monster Trollflings!

Perhaps some of the cutest of the bunch, the Monster Trollflings have been appearing here in Edgehill. I find them most anywhere, snooping near the pond, rifling through coloring books or looking for snacks.

This is Gregor, a cute monster who is ready for the Halloween Party! Often bringing a pumpkin to a party is a swell idea. It makes a wonderful gift especially if you handpaint it with a silly or scary face. :D

The cyclop monster pumpkin pins! I tell ya, I wear my own every year and they always bring a giggle and a smile!

"Where did you get that?!" I am happy to be able to tell them " I make them!" :D They also fascinate children, which I think is terrific.

I will also be featuring them at the fall art fair this year, Sept 28th at Patty Cakes and Morning glories, 209 Market Street in Troy Ohio.

I was happy to be able to accquire some very old german doll eyes past year and they give them that extra special touch. Wonderful for fall and halloween! I plan on having many more and the guy there above is currently available as of 8-07-07 as well as another in my shop handsculpted by Jr. Troll artist Millie!(my eight year old daughter)

Meet Jamari

OUR NEW FROG JAMARI!

Something exciting happened today! We found a frog in our koi pond! He stayed for quite a while, diving then sunning, diving then sunning. I have lived in Ohio for most of my life and had NEVER seen an actual wild frog. My daughters named him Jamari, and he has a fine life here in Edgehill. I think he is planning on staying and he is more than welcome here. May he bring a bit of luck to us! He sure is keeping the children entertained!

The First Troll Pumpkin of the season! Two inches high, a wonderful jack o lantern with a troll's face!

I created both Jack and Smoth the Ogre Pumpkin for sale this week in my shop and the Halloween spirit is in full swing(even if it is early) here in Edgehill.

Q: What is Edgehill?

A: Edgehill is the area of my town that our studio/home is in! Edgehill is on all the old original rodiron street signs and sounded such a fitting name for our Troll art! Trollflings is what they are called and Trollflings originate in "Edgehill" by myself :D

Smoth the Ogre is a cunning fellow with two jack o lantern snaggleteeth! He is appropriate for dollhouse scale as he is an inch and a half tall. A Monster of a pumpkin!

Would you look at those ogre monster ears! I wouldn't trust him, he could be up to something!

Ghostly Trees

Spooky scary trees!
Would you want to run into this fellow on your next woodland walk? Well I would...maybe. When I was listing him I could almost hear him mooooan!

One of the biggest things that I ever sculpted even though he was only about eight inches tall. He was filled with mosses, sticks and silk leaves. White sculpey then aged several times...I created this tree over two years ago.

One of the very first trees I had ever created and there has since been four or five dozen after him but my thoughts always return to my first. Sometimes a piece of our art will stay with us a while and this one is a fine example.
I had been given some advice to keep the first of any new line that I create and now I know why!

He is not for sale he has found a wonderful home and hope this Halloween and all of those hereafter, he will bring his new owner joy as he has brought me such fond memories.

Vikings! Brave Viking Trolls!

The vikings are coming!

I have been working on some new things and I am REALLY REALLY enjoying my little viking heroes!
This little guy here, Gunnar was created for a dear friend of mine and I forgot how much I loved them!

Scruffy little trolls with a brave spirit! My hero!

I have also been creating Gnome trolls which I adore so very much. In fact I kept one for my very own, sweet little Timothy!
